Spanish action for the RCZ Peugeot Sport

image After appearances in Germany, Italy and France, the RCZ Peugeot Sport is about to make its debut in Spain. Its first race will be at Motorland Aragon on June 16-17.

One car in the CER championship

The endurance version of the RCZ Racing Cup, which was designed, developed and also marketed by Peugeot Sport, will now be seen in Spain where a car is about to appear in the country’s CER series (Copa Espana Resistencia). It will be driven by Maximo Cortes and Alberto Vescovi and run by Team Astra Racing. The CER features a format of two races which last for 48 minutes + one lap. "Ever since we came third with a 307 WRC on the 2006 Rallye Monte-Carlo, I have been waiting for the right opportunity and challenge to run a Peugeot again,” says Astra Racing’s team manager Luca Pregliasco. “I am convinced the RCZ will be competitive in Spain because of the outstanding quality and performance it delivers for its price. I think it has a bright future ahead of it on the Spanish racing scene. Astra Racing is based at Navarra and we’ve been the biggest team in the CER for several years now.”  image

Racing success for the RCZ Peugeot Sport

The RCZ Racing Cup is enjoying success in all the countries where it is organised this year. In France, the level of competition is extremely fierce between the avid youngsters and the experience old-hands thanks to evenly-balanced technical and sporting regulations. The series is currently led by Mathieu Jaminet, 17. In Italy, the car is competing within the framework of the national endurance championship and its performance has met the expectations of the 10 drivers who have chosen to race it. The endurance version of the RCZ is also active in Germany where has so far gone unbeaten in the VLN series. It recently rose successfully to its biggest challenge of the year by claiming the SP2T class at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.  image

The strengths of the RCZ Peugeot Sport

The RCZ has benefited from the vast motorsport expertise that Peugeot Sport has acquired over a period of more than three decades in order to deliver an unrivalled quality and performance package for its price. Like the production version, the race version comes under the ‘premium’ heading, as suggested by its expressive styling, carefully finished interior, pedigree mechanicals and advanced technologies. The RCZ Peugeot Sport targets all types of driver, from the most battle-hardened competitors, who will be able to fine-tune their set-ups thanks to the data logging system, to gentlemen drivers will enjoy the pleasure ensured by the generous torque of its 250-horsepower 1.6 THP engine. Its other chief strengths include its rigorously engineered chassis, braking performance and, above all, its paddle-shift sequential gearbox. Gear shift times are minimal and it is possible to move up and down the box without using the clutch. This means drivers can keep their hands on the steering wheel to remain in total control at all times. For a price of €54,900 (exclusive of VAT), the RCZ Peugeot Sport is delivered ready to race after being tested. Peugeot Sport has developed an 'endurance' kit which can be fitted to the 'sprint' version as required.  image
