Partnership: Peugeot and Michelin

Motorsport has always formed part of the Michelin brand’s genetic make-up. From its first success back in 1891 in the Paris-Brest-Paris cycle race to its 14th straight win at Le Mans in 2011, MICHELIN has always raced and rallied in order to showcase the quality of its tyres in the most extreme conditions, as well as to stimulate innovation and carry over the technologies developed for racing to its road tyres.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Peugeot and Michelin joined forces for the Le Mans 24 Hours after winning the World Rally Championship and the Dakar Rally together. In 1992 and 1993, the Le Mans-winning Peugeot 905s were equipped with Michelin tyres.

It was consequently no surprise to see Peugeot and Michelin team up once again for the French carmaker’s return to endurance racing in 2007, with a diesel-powered car equipped with a particulate filter. Racing on Michelin rubber, the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP has since claimed four titles and taken 20 wins in the discipline, including the challenging Le Mans 24 Hours in 2009.

Michelin is also a partner of Peugeot in the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (soon to become the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012) with the new Peugeot 908.
