The project started on 16 May 2006, when the 207 Super 2000 fired into life for the first time, under the watchful eyes of Bruno Famin, Technical Manager of Peugeot Sport and Bertrand Vallat, Project Manager for the 207 Super 2000 at Peugeot Sports base at Vélizy on the outskirts of Paris.
The Peugeot 207 Super 2000 then commenced a comprehensive development programme on two types of surface: loose surface and tarmac. During this same year, it made the opening of two public outings in two rallies: Antibes in France in October and Condroz in Belgium in November.
Several drivers have taken the wheel as part of the development: Bryan Bouffier, Gilles Panizzi, Philippe Aragneau and Sebastian Lindohlm. The Peugeot 207 Super 2000 continues Peugeot’s tradition in rallying following on from the 205 T16, 306 Maxi, 206 WRC and the 307 WRC. It is a rally car destined to compete on both loose and tarmac surfaces, and meets the “Super 2000” FIA regulations.

The Rally Super 2000 Class is composed of cars in group A developed from production models, with a bodystyle which must have been produced in more than 25,000 examples. The regulations allow volume manufacturers to offer a very competitive car with fourwheel drive, a naturally aspirated 2.0 litre engine with a power output of 280 bhp and a controlled 6-speed sequential gearbox.
The regulations specify specific changes to the production car, in particular wider wings to install McPherson type suspension front and rear, as well as 18” wheels clad with special rally tyres. A maximum width, however, is imposed and all driving assistance systems are prohibited.
The Super 2000 category offers a blend of simplicity, cost and competitive performance, an important factor for private teams, independent international Peugeot importers and international Peugeot subsidiaries, for the use of their customers to campaign in their national championships.
The Super 2000 can also provide a competitive car that can take part in the World Production Championship (S-WRC) and Intercontnental Rally Challenge (IRC) alongside vehicles in group N4 (cars resembling production models with four wheel drive and powered by a 2.0 litre turbo charged engine).
