Our team PEUGEOT SPORT SLOVAKIA with technical support of Tamas Tagai (TRT team) , with driver Hubert Ptaszek and co-driver Maciek Szczepaniak participated at Rally Argentina 21-24, April 2016. After 4 day we could confirm proudly that we have finished the rally in 2nd position in WRC2, and with this result Hubert and Maciej jumped from 4th to 2nd position in the classification! Rally Argentina is very specific and very difficult and both Peugeot Sport Slovakia, TRT mechanics and drivers came through their participation with flying colours and lived up every bit to their status as successful participation at Rally Mexico.
Day 1 we finished in overall after in 19. position, in WRC2 in 6 place. Head of TRT team Tamas Tagai said after first day:
The gravel is really soft, and Hubert struggled with gear change problem because of too much wheel spin. I explained him what to do in this case and also tried to help changing a bit the set-up of the car. Today it seems it's ok, there is no gearbox issue anymore.
Day 2 was more dramatic. We finished the third stage with a right rear puncture. We lost over 40 s, but we don’t give up and carry on. We have been still 4 in WRC 2 after SS3 and 18. in overall ranking. The leader of the classification, Elfyn Evans was unlucky and was forced to retire from Friday’s stages.
After SS4 SANTA ROSA – SA AUSTIN Hubert said:
But damaged wheel did not stop and we finished Santa Rosa special stage in 2 place in WRC2 with the loss of just 4 seconds. As a result, we are now in third place in the standings!
Head of TRT team Tamas Tagai said after day 2:
If you look on the results, you can see that it was clear for us after just few stages that the rally will be extremely difficult. In wrc2 Al Suwaidi retired with broken suspension on the 1st stage of the day. Right after, Evans - leader of wrc2 - also retired because of electrical issues and in the same stage Fuchs slowed down because of steering problems. For the moment the Peugeot 208T16 is working perfectly, we had no single technical issue on Friday. To be honest I'm very pleased with Hubert's performance despite having 3 punctures today! He has no experience at all in Argentina and we asked him to not push on the limit, but the times on the clear stages are more than perfect.
During Day 3 the Peugeot 208 T16 keeps running without any technical issue, so it was more pleasant for all team. Hubert and Maciej did this day exactly what the team have agreed before; they have saved up speed and took under control their position. Unfortunately WRC2 the leader Al Kuwari rolled on SS13 and he lost the first position and let us jump in 2nd. So we have finished the day in 13th overall and 2nd in WRC2 category.
Head of TRT team Tamas Tagai said after day 3:
As today the crew did not even have punctured, the TRT mechanics had time to check carefully the car, but they haven’t found any problem. So we can say that the Peugeot is really working well even in these hard conditions!
Day 4 the driver Hubert Ptaszek said:
Today we faced three special stages and we were quite cautions from the very beginning, thinking about results-On the stage 1 we were able to see only 1 meter in front pf the car due to huge fog. 2nd and 3rth stages were a bit faster for us, but still we didn’t want to take too many risk. We are happy about the work we´ve done – the result is less important. We did a big step forward once again.
After 4 day we could confirm proudly that we have finished the rally in in 2nd position in WRC2, and with this result Hubert and Maciej jumped from 4th to 2nd position in the classification!
